Presentation of Awards Ceremony.

Cadets at 176 (Hove) Squadron Air Training Corps, were recently recognised for their outstanding achievements throughout 2016 in the form of the 2016 Annual Awards Ceremony.

Several guests were present, including the Lord Lieutenant and his wife. Guests including the Mayor of Hove, Mr Colin – Jones, Mr Michael Dormer, and Mr Stephen Wade, along with many parents, guardians, staff and friends.

The following trophies were presented for achievements during the year 2016. The trophies only being presented where there is a clear winner or winners.

The McMillan Sports Shield – Presented by Mrs McMillan to the sports cadet of the year. Awarded for either combined achievements of outstanding endeavours.

The Champagne Cup – Presented by Mrs C Moy-Loader, Mayor of Hove, 1984-1985 to 1078 (Hove) Unit of the Girls Venture Corps for Community Service. With the disbandment of the GVC unit and the transfer of the members to the ATC, the trophy passed to the Squadron. It is awarded for community service including fundraising for other community organisations.

The Colin – Jones, Smartest Cadet Trophy – Presented by Mr Colin – Jones to the cadet with the highest average score in the uniform inspections.

The Recruits Trophy – Presented by Flt Lt J Bodner RAFVR(T) to the cadet(s) who introduces the most cadets, that stay to become enrolled cadets.

The Mike Dormer Endeavour Shield – Presented by Mr Michael Dormer to the cadet who has endeavoured to apply themselves above all others within the Junior Cadet Course.

Stadium Band Challenge Shield – Presented by The Stadium to the cadet that makes the most contribution to the Squadron Band.

The Chairman’s Cup – Presented by Mr Stephen Wade to the cadet with the highest overall results in the cadet classification examination.

Inter – Flight Challenge Shield – Awarded to the winning Flight in the annual inter – Flight competition, based on each cadet’s contribution to their Flight and their Squadron.

Best NCO Award – Awarded annually to the best all round cadet NCO.

The Manson Cup – Presented to the best all – round cadet, covers all cadet activities and achievements. The recipient also receives a Wing Certificate and an individual glass trophy to keep.

  • Bandsperson – Shield: Cpl C. Marten. Runner Up Cdt P. Preston/Cdt E. Wade
  • Endeavour (JCC only) – Shield: Cdt B. Brooker. Runner Up Cdt R. Day
  • Modelling (Wing) – Trophy: Winner Cdt B. Roden
  • Wing Photography Trophy: Winner CWO P. Jordan-Evans
  • Sussex Wing Junior Sportsperson: Winner Cpl C. Marten
  • Sussex Wing Best Male Cadet: Winner CWO B. Jones
